POLICE BRUTALITY MUST STOP
Animation short film:
“Police Brutality Must Stop” is a personal animated short born from my nostalgia for Greece and the unsettling events of 2020. At the time, I had already spent eight years abroad, watching from afar as my home country grappled with fear, anger, and division.
As an artist, I’m often torn between expressing my emotions and staying away from politics.
I’m not against the police, nor am I aligned with any side.
What affected me deeply was the relentless wave of violent videos circulating in the media. That emotional friction needed an outlet, and animation became my voice.
This short film is my response: a plea for unity, dignity, and the simple truth that no one is above another, regardless of their profession, beliefs, or background. Greece is a place of incredible spirit but also a history of internal conflict. If we want to grow, we must choose empathy over hostility.
Life is brief, and violence offers nothing but more pain.
Creative Process:
I wanted to act quickly, learn, and say something that mattered. Inspired by a similar piece I had seen, I pushed myself to take on more of the creative process. In Blender, I designed the characters and used Mixamo motion capture to animate the story in just a few days.
The short is raw and unpolished, rendered in Eevee without glossing over the glitches. But that roughness is part of its truth. The urgency of the message mattered more than achieving technical perfection.
Sharing the film with a friend led to festival submissions and the realization that this was my first completed short film.
It sparked a desire to keep creating, to direct more stories that come from the heart, and to explore how animation can communicate emotion with immediacy and impact.
